It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and great grandfather Desmond Henry Cook, a long time resident of Mississauga and more recently of Niagara and Oakville, Ontario, on Tues. 26th April, 2016, at age 86, at the Brampton Memorial Hospital in Mississauga, after a long and bravely fought battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Desmond was the beloved husband, for more than 63 years, of Daphne Violet Cook (nee Terry). He was the much loved father to 5 children: Dwayne Cook of Oakville, David Cook of Florida, Desmond Cook (and his wife Erin) of Bracknell, England, Darryl Cook (and his partner Jeffery Johnson) of Houston, Texas and Dina Clarke (and her husband Steve) of Mississauga.

He is sadly missed by granddaughters Natasha Cook and Tonya Perri (and her husband Robert) and fondly remembered by their mother, Mary Pasquale, all of Toronto. He was very proud great grandfather to Sofia Perri. He is also sadly missed by granddaughters Stephanie and Kimberley Clarke of Mississauga. and Julianne, Jenna and Megan Cook of Bracknell, England.

He is remembered with fondness by his sister and brother in law Iris and Harry Gorick of Rickmansworth, England, and nieces and nephews Stephen Gorick (and his wife), Susan Hewitt (and her husband Bob), and Katherine, all of England, and Robert (and his wife Lucia) Gorick of Italy, and all their children, and by family friend Jason of Oakville.

Desmond was predeceased by his loving parents William George and Edith Cook of England.

Desmond was raised in Essex in England and was evacuated to Guildford where he attended school during World War 2. As a young man he served as a military policeman for the Royal Air Force in Malaya. After completing an apprenticeship, he then became a fully qualified photo engraver. In 1952, in Barkingside, he married Daphne Terry, whom he met a few years before at a social dance for teenagers. After honeymooning in Torquay, they immigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1953 and he became a long time employee of Bomac Graphics, where he continued his career as a photo engraver until his retirement.

Before and after retirement, Desmond and Daphne were keen travellers and liked nothing better than driving their motor home across North America, accompanied by their many dogs, including Sasha, Max, and in more recent years, Brava and Leo. They also made regular trips to England to visit family there and to visit Europe.

They were long time residents of Dickson Road in Mississauga, and in the last few years lived on Park Road in Niagara and then with son Dwayne in Oakville.

The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of Malton Village Long Term Care facility that helped look after Desmond over the last year.
