Alfred Richard "(Rick/Alfi)" Halbig
December 5, 1930 - July 16, 2014
Rick passed away peacefully in his 83rd year surrounded by family on July 16, 2014 at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. Beloved husband of 61 years to Joan Lorna. Loving father to Niel Alfred (Beth). Proud grandpa to Gary Alfred (Vanessa) and Kristina Margaret. Dear brother of Anita Heidi (Oskar) Oelke.
Rick will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by extended family, including Robert & Joan White, William & Lynne White, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends around the world. Affectionately known as “Alfi” by those close to him. He was a kind and warm soul to everyone he met. Rick grew up in Toronto but spent special years in Bietigheim, Germany. Rick had interests in painting, sketch work, the great outdoors, and loved sharing stories of his life experiences. A private family committal service will be held Wednesday, July 23rd.
A celebration of Rick’s life will take place on Sunday, September 21st at 1:00 pm. at Community of Christ Church, 84 Old Burnhamthorpe Road, Toronto. Details are available at Rick’s memorial website at glenoaks.ca (Glen Oaks Memorial Chapel, 3164 Ninth Line, Oakville 905-257-8822). If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rick’s memory to a charity of your choice.
