<div itemprop="description">BOB'S FAMILY WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IF YOU WOULD CLICK CONTRIBUTE ABOVE AND ADD STORIES ABOUT HIS LIFE AND CAREER. <br /> <br />...and be sure to click on &quot;Biography&quot; above to get a much longer life story of Bob. <br /> <br />Robert (Bob) Lorne Whitell passed away on Monday, April 18, 2016, at Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital at the age of 85. <br /> <br />Much-loved father of Bob (Vicki) Whitell, Brenda (Jim) Lien, Karen Whitell and grandfather of Kevin, Mark, Thomas, Carly and Michael. Mr. Whitell was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Margaret (Peggy). <br /> <br />Always proud of his Saskatchewan roots, he was born in Weyburn, SK on January 19, 1931, son of Fred and Lena (Jaeckle), and brother to Johnny, Billy (deceased) and Vivian. <br /> <br />Upon completing high school in 1949, Mr. Whitell entered the Training Program at the Weyburn Woolworth store. His good work and attitude continually impressed management. He became Store Manager in 1956 and District Manager in 1963. In 1971, he was promoted to the Toronto head office, where he held a number of senior management positions including, finally, President &amp; CEO from February 1986 to his retirement in January 1992. <br /> <br />In addition to his commitment to his family, he was an avid golfer and continued to play at every opportunity into his 80s. <br /> <br />Visitation (from 9:30am), remembrance service (at 11:00am) and reception will be held on Monday, April 25th, 2016 at: <br />Glen Oaks Funeral Home &amp; Cemetery <br />3164 9th Line (west of 403, north of Dundas St.) <br />Oakville, Ontario <br />L6H 7A8 <br /> <br />For more information, please visit www.glenoaks.ca or call 905-257-8822. <br /> <br />In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart &amp; Stroke Foundation or Autism Ontario. <br /></div>
