Bob passed away peacefully with family at his side on Sunday, August 11, 2013. He will be missed by beloved wife Vicky, son Brendan and daughter Stephanie, brother Stephen, sister Helen, father Jack, and extended family. Bob was blessed to have a large network of very close and dear friends, too many to name, but each so very important to him.

Bob was a cherished member of his community and participated actively for over 20 years at Glen Abbey United Church and with the Oakville Wind Orchestra. He played occasionally with Sophisticated Swing including a New Year’s Eve dance and an event at the Warplane Heritage Museum. After Bob’s cancer diagnosis he began playing a djembe rather than his drum kit and actively participated in drum circles and drum workshops which he first attended, then co-facilitated and ultimately began leading. Bob’s love for music was evident throughout his life. He loved to jam with friends, drum in worship at Glen Abbey United Church as well as at Chapel of the Delaware and New Credit United Church. He was drummer in the Kimono band that played a gig at the Silver Dollar in Toronto. He was passionate about music therapy at Wellspring Halton Peel and was able to continue participating in music therapy at the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice day program for the last year and as a resident there to the end of his life journey.

Bob was very grateful for all the support and care given throughout his 9 ½ year journey with Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) Brain cancer. He wrote a book titled “Reflections From Bob” in which he details some of his fond memories and his outlook on living with cancer. He was an inspiration, providing hope to others with a GBM diagnosis and reminding them that their journey need not conform to the ominous prognosis. “I’m not a statistic, I’m Bob.” In these years he also wanted to give back to those struggling with cancer by participating in fundraising walks – Head for a Cure to benefit the Pencer Brain Tumour Centre at Princess Margaret Hospital and the Relay for Life for the Canadian Cancer Society.

Bob was well known for his positive outlook on life and constantly smiling. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, golfing, and playing music. Within the last few years of his life he travelled with wife Vicky to Malta and London; Amsterdam and London; Italy, Paris and London (seems to be a theme here) and to Cancun.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Gerry and Nancy Pencer Brain Tumour Centre at Princess Margaret Hospital, Wellspring Halton-Peel, or Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice.

On-line condolences can be made at www.glenoaks.ca
