Noreen Audrey Madgett (England)
Jan 18 1930 - April 22 2016

It is with profound sadness, that the family announces the passing of our cherished Mom, Nana, Sister, Aunt, and Friend.
Noreen died peacefully at her home, in Oakville, on Friday April 22, 2016 surrounded by her family, at the age of 86.

To know her, was to love her.
She had the kindest soul. She was gentle, yet so very strong.
She was genuine and generous, vibrant and vivacious.
Her smile and sense of fun brightened the day of anyone that crossed her path. Her wonderfully warm character, zest for life and positive outlook, always drew people to her.

Noreen was born and raised in Toronto, by her late, loving parents, Audrey Mae (nee Voss) and Jonathan Leslie. She grew up with two special sisters, the late Jacqueline Jean Lillian Moore (2004) and her youngest sister, Sandy Dianne Harnett. She met and married the late John Ross Madgett (2004) in 1954.

Loving mother to Duane Ross Madgett (Jodie) and Jeffrey John Madgett (Nikki). Noreen and Ross moved the family to their new home in Oakville in 1972. For Noreen, being a mother was her greatest joy. Family values meant everything, and she made sure that her sons knew how loved and cared for they were. Carting Duane and Jeff to hockey tournaments, soccer and baseball games, putting up with drum sessions, house parties, and even her boy’s girlfriends, that would later become the daughter-in-laws she always wanted. Her heart and home was always filled with love, and everyone was welcome. Every birthday, and any other special occasion was always cause for celebration.

And then her grandchildren came along, and a “Nana" was born! How happy she was!
Maiya, Jack, Ben and Tommy. Three hockey, baseball, soccer players to relive her younger years, and a real live doll to dress up and get pedicures with! She doted on all of them (evenly, of course!) with more love and devotion than we thought was possible. She was so proud of them and cherished them more than anything. She was a very special Nana to her grand kids and the memories they made together will be cherished forever.

A much loved Auntie, Noreen always made time for her niece and nephews, Chris, Nicole, David, Mike, Patrick, Derrick and Danny. There were many extended trips out to Vancouver to sight see and visit with them. Stuffing her luggage with malt bread and peameal bacon, Aunt Neen always went above and beyond for those she loved.

Noreen was everyone's friend. Around the neighbourhood, at the church, in the bowling alley, and of course, was a regular once again at the hockey arenas, baseball diamonds and soccer fields! A cow-bell in one hand and her camera in the other, she was one of the biggest fans in the stands! And if you missed her at any of those locations, in her golden years, she could be spotted zip-lining in Costa Rica, tanning on the beaches of the Mayan Riviera, doing the hula in Hawaii, or cruisin’ the Alaskan waters. All that and throw in the chicken dance or the Hokey Pokey … Neen was never bashful and could show you how it was done!

As per her wishes, Noreen asked, and we quote: “In lieu of flowers, please go out and celebrate with your loved ones … have a smile-filled dinner and a drink on me, complete with great memories and lots of laughter”.
For those who wish, donations in memory of Neen can be made to The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer. This year, Jeff will be doing his 5th ride in honour of his mom.
Donations can also be made to Walton Memorial United Church, a place of great peace and comfort for Noreen.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Levasseur and the doctors at the Cancer Centre at Credit Valley Hospital for all of their care and treatment. The family would also like to extend their deepest gratitude to her close friend Cheryl Murphy, as well Elizabeth, Amanda and Silas with CCAC, for making Noreen comfortable in her final days.

Mom, Nana, Noreen, Aunt Neen...you were OUR Sunshine. You will always make us happy when skies are gray.
Always with us, never forgotten, forever loved.
Bless your sweet soul. xo

For those who wish donations can be made in memory of Noreen to The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer by clicking the donation tab below or scanning the QR code attached.

Donations can also be made to Walton Memorial United Church.
