Passed away peacefully in Oakville with family by his side on Monday, January 25, 2016 at the age of 79. Beloved husband of Barbara (nee MacDonald) for 59 years. Loving father of Julie Smith (Bill), John and Jeff Wright. Proud grandfather of Justin and Ryan Smith and Jacob Wright. Predeceased by his brother Kenneth Wright. He will be sadly missed by his best furry friend Nellie Valentine. John will also be forever remembered by extended family and many friends who knew and loved him. John earned his wings with the Canadian Air Force, after which he flew jets in the reserves for 5 years. He began his commercial flying career with TCA (Trans Canada Airlines/Air Canada) at the age of 19 and retired from Air Canada as Captain after spending 40 years in a career he loved. After retirement, his passion for fishing (Upper Credit Trout Club), golfing (Credit Valley Golf and Country Club) and family (Nellie too!) kept him busy and happy. The last few years of his life were a struggle for John, made easier by the wonderful people who cared for him, especially his son Jeff. Special heartfelt thanks go out from John's family to the most caring people at Northridge Long Term Care Facility. John’s face lit up every time he saw one of them.

John’s family invites you to join them in a celebration of life at the Credit Valley Golf and Country Club, 2500 Old Carriage Road, Mississauga on Sunday, January 31, 2016 between 2:00 and 4:30 PM (special words commencing at 3:00). If desired, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society, Ian Anderson House or Oakville Humane Society.

Online condolences can be expressed by clicking on the above "Guestbook" tab.
