After a brave battle with cancer, Gustavo left us to be an Angel of God on January 21 2015 at the young age of 13. Gustavo was the beloved son of Lizbeth and Gustavo Sr., and younger brother to Daniela. He will be sorely missed by Abuelos Juan and Nieves, Gerardo and Olga, 5 Tias and 7 Tios, all his cousins across Canada, Venezuela and Spain and the US, and many many friends.
Gustavo enjoyed tennis, soccer, riding his bike, and going to Canada's Wonderland. He was a straight A student at St. Marguerite D'Youville in Oakville. His precious smile, kind manners and generous heart made him a very special boy. All that knew Gusti said he was an angel - now he truly is. May his sweet soul rest in peace.
The family would like to thank the hardworking staff at Toronto Hospital for Sick Children and Holland Bloorview Rehabilitation Hospital for their loving care of Gustavo, and the families of the St. Marguerite D'Youville school community for all their support over the past 7 months.
In lieu of flowers the family is accepting donations that will be used to create a foundation in Gustavo's name. The foundation will be used to help children with cancer, here at Toronto Sick Kids Hospital, in his native Venezuela, or wherever needed most. Deposits can be made at TD Canada Trust - account 31242-6066396.
Please share your thoughts and memories of Gustavo here on the Guestbook or at http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/gustavoizquierdo
A prayer for everyone to remember Gustavo:
Don't cry if you love me
If you knew the gift of God
and what Heaven is.
If you could hear the angels singing
and see me among them...
If, only for an instant, you could contemplate,
just like me,
the Beauty before which all beauties turn pale.
Trust me.
When the day, which God has stated and knows, arrives
and your soul, which has been preceded by mine,
enters this Heaven,
That day you will see me again,
you will feel that I still love you,
that I have always loved you
and you will find my heart
with all its love purified.
You will see me in transfiguration,
in an ecstasy of happiness.
No longer waiting for death,
but walking with you
and holding your hand along new paths of light and life.
So, wipe your tears away
and don´t cry, if you love me...
Saint Augustin
