It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Fred just one month and two days shy of his 72nd birthday. Fred brought the same good nature and sense of humour in his final days as he demonstrated in his life time. Fred was a dedicated employee of the Town of Oakville and proudly served the community first as Zoning Inspector and later as a By-Law Enforcement Officer before he retired in 2005 with 35 years of service.
Beloved and devoted husband, best friend and soul mate of Janice (nee Mortensen) for 41 years. Dearly loved brother of David (Arthurlyn Moore), Craig (Judith Phillips), Vicki (Paul Drobotenko) and predeceased by brother Chris (2005). Loved brother-in-law of Martine Culham (the late Douglas, 2015) and Darlene and Bill Moffatt. Fred was a special uncle who was much loved and will be greatly missed by his many nephews and nieces as well as great nieces, cousins and their extended families and many caring friends. A long-time member of St. John’s United Church, Oakville, Fred enjoyed serving on the Worship and Congregational Life Committees. He loved to golf and bowl (in fact that is how Janice and he met) and was a great fan of the Toronto Argonauts, Maple Leafs and Blue Jays, but his greatest passion was travelling along with Janice exploring approximately 40 US states including Alaska and Hawaii and experiencing a panda excursion to China. Fred picked up the travel bug by attending a Boys Brigade Jamboree Camp in Scotland as a teenager.
Friends will be received at the Glen Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery (3164 Ninth Line, Oakville at Dundas Street) on Friday March 4, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday March 5, 2016 at St. John’s United Church (262 Randall Street, Oakville) at 11am. Interment St. Judes Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to cancer research or a charity of your choice.
