Beryl was born in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies on February 24th, 1915. She attended Chinese School in Kingston and was not allowed to complete high school thus she made sure that all her girls had a chance for a better education. She was married at 17 and started the "Chang Gang" at 19. She was a Retail Entrepreneur in Jamaica and Canada. After her husband died, she started a Christian bookstore in Hagersville, Ontario at the age of 63. She loved to read non-fiction, listen to Christian radio and travel. She loved her children and wanted them to be happy. She has a dry sense of humor and loved to laugh. She loved music and would sing to us when we were growing up to encourage us and inspire us. When it rained she would sing "Showers of Blessing".
We would like to express our utmost gratitude to Dr. Denys Symons, Nella Nikolakakos, Ursula Dingler and her team at Cawthra Gardens for their compassionate and expert care of our mother. We also acknowledge the support of the CCAC Caseworker, Fortuna Clipa, and PSW Geselle Godawe, Acupuncturist Holly Zheng who helped her become mobile and was able to walk, and the many care-givers who worked with us to care for mom while she was at home.
